Meet Dr. Hina Shahid

I am a board-certified family doctor with a specialist interest in women’s health. I hold postgraduate diplomas in obstetrics and gynaecology and sexual and reproductive health. I have always been interested in integrating biological, psychological and social approaches to health and qualified in Medicine with Distinction and first prize in Psychology, Sociology and Epidemiology from University College London. 

I completed my GP training on the Chelsea & Westminster training scheme in London, and have a BSc in Pharmacology from University College London, with research focusing on molecular neuropharmacology, and an MSc in Public Health from the London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine where my research was part of a UN project exploring the socioeconomic determinants of chronic disease amongst refugee populations in the Middle East. I am a member of the Royal College of General Practitioners and Fellow of the Royal and Society of Public Health. I am an EMCC-certified coach and a holistic practitioner of mind-body therapies including yoga, meditation and breathwork for over 10 years.

In addition to my current clinical roles, I work in medical education at Imperial College School of Medicine and Queen Mary University of London as an admissions tutor, examiner and undergraduate tutor. 

I have been involved in organising and delivering community-based lifestyle health screening and education programmes nationally for 15 years and work as a community educator.  

I have published and presented in over 50 international peer-reviewed journals, articles, books, conferences and national, international and regional events and am a frequent keynote speaker on health inequalities and healthcare leadership and inclusion. 

I also contribute regularly to the media as a health policy expert on issues affecting culturally diverse populations and present a health TV show to empower people to make evidence-based health choices. 

I am honoured to have been nominated for numerous accolades including winning the British Muslim Awards for Services to Medicine, being nominated for the Asian Achievement Awards and being named as one of the top 100 influential Muslims in the UK

I am a strong believer in giving back and currently chair two national non-profit organisations focused on health inclusion for marginalised communities in the UK. I have had the privilege of serving as an advisor to the UK and international governments and the UN on several health policy areas and am an ambassador for several national campaigns and initiatives on ethnic minority health inclusion and advancing women’s health and wellbeing. I have a keen interest in supporting women into leadership and challenging structural barriers and am an ambassador for the British Medical Association’s Ending Sexism in Medicine campaign and for the Women of The Future Programme.
